MAZDA HYPE HOTEL
THE CHALLENGE
Faced with intense sensory noise and massive foot traffic bottlenecks at the crowded South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, Mazda and Hype Machine partnered with STN COLLECTIVE to develop a high-profile brand activation at the iconic Hype Hotel venue. The primary challenge required a creative, solution capable of seamlessly blending automotive technology with live music culture to transform the consumer perception of the Mazda3 among tech-savvy festival-goers and top-tier artists. To capture attendee attention and incentivize deeper brand engagement, the activation needed to cut through the competitive festival environment while simultaneously offering a practical method for managing dense crowds.
THE SOLUTION
In response, the agency engaged STN COLLECTIVE to help create the "Mazda Spectrum Analyzer," transforming the physical Mazda3 vehicle into an interactive musical instrument and audio-reactive LED art installation. This multi-sensory projection-mapping setup allowed fans to touch and play the vehicle, triggering dynamic lighting grids synchronized with live background music from performing bands. To drive participation and alleviate venue congestion, Mazda integrated a "FastPass" incentive program that granted VIP perks and line-bypass access to fans who interacted with brand ambassadors and displays. The footprint further maximized its digital reach and cultural buzz by hosting performing artists in the Mazda #HYPEON Influencer Lounge for exclusive interviews, alongside filming a high-profile segment with Robert DeLong and Guillermo for Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
